Spey Valley Sailing Club

Our foreign correspondent reports for the Newsletter and Web Page. "Earlier this year we watched our silverware sail off to the Trophy cabinet of Spey Valley Sailing Club, when Jaimie and Karen cleaned up with their Laser 2000. Last weekend Steve and Glen Foster, armed with Toppers, marched south for a return match and brought back some booty. It wasn't really the intention to get revenge - the promise of good crack and meeting old friends beckoned. Also the Scottish Schools and Topper Traveler events were on which Glen was keen to have a first go at in a single-hander. 3 races were held on Saturday in shifting punchy winds which dumped out of the mountains like bricks out of a barrow. Sunday swapped sore stomach muscles weary of hiking for sore knees and necks as kneeling in the bilge's was compulsory in the UN-breeze. 3 bullets and a second by Steve in the Slow Handicap saw off the favorite's in the Wayfarer - sorry John - for the Rosebowl and a smart bit of Crown Derby. However the real rock-stars were in the Junior Topper fleet. This highly competitive bunch included hotshots from the highly competitive National Squad were started 5 minutes later and often caught the back markers in the slow and fast handicap fleets including GP14's and Lasers. Glen entered the charts with 15th out of 34 boats to take 'best newcomer' in the form of the Joan Maxwell Trophy, His elapsed times would have knocked his Dad off the Slow Handicap top-spot - ouch. An extremely sociable Barbie on Saturday night saw the sunset over the Cairngorms stunningly mirrored in the stillness of Loch Morlich. With friendships rekindled and promises of a return match at Scrabster's 'End of Season' Regatta we took our booty back North to the land of 'Everlasting Wind and Waves'."

Cheers Steve PS. Watch out for the Raft Race Report.
