North of Scotland Squad Weekend

Three juniors from the Pentland Firth Yacht Club attended the North of Scotland Squad Weekend at Spey Valley Sailing club in October. It was Iain and David's first squad weekend and they didn't know what to expect. We all really enjoyed it despite having to get up at 5. 15 am to get there on time. On Saturday, the wind was gusty, shifty and quite strong. On the Sunday, it was lighter, but still coming from all directions. There were 28 Toppers and 4 Laser Radials. Because nearly everyone was in the same type of boat, the racing was really close. The Toppers were split into 2 fleets to cater for different abilities. We learned a lot of new things, like using a gate start and sailing in big fleets. It was very cold so next time we will remember to put on a lot more layers. We all improved over the weekend. It was very enjoyable and we hope to go to another one soon. The members of the Spey Valley Sailing Club kindly let us stay with them overnight. Thank you to the club and all the organisers and coaches, for making such an enjoyable weekend.
